St. Andrew Lutheran Church began to serve the Montbello nieghborhood of Denver, Colorado in 1968 with the intention to reach out to the community with the love of God revealed in the Person of Jesus Christ through both words and actions. Seeking to address the needs of the families in Montbello, the congregation opened St. Andrew Lutheran School to provide a quality Christian education. Over the years, the Church and the School grew to be integral elements of the community.
While the school had to close about six years ago due to changing demographics and the increasing cost of state and local regulations, the congregation continues to worship, study the Scriptures, and address the spiritual and physical aspirations of the neighborhood to the best of its ability. We remain committed to maintaining an effective presence in Montbello, witnessing to Jesus Christ as well as providing resources that enhance people's lives.
St. Andrew congregation has been the place where our sister Lutheran congregation, Cordero de Dios, has been able to worship and reach out to spanish-speaking people in our community for a number of years. We are always working with them on ways to encourage and strengthen one another's ministries. Two other non-Lutheran spanish language congregations also gather in our building for worship and other activities.
Though we are small and have faced some tough challenges, the Lord has blessed us mightily through His Word and Sacraments. He has blessed us to be faithful to the truth of His Word while forgiving our many faults. We are grateful to God for the many blessings we have enjoyed over the years and for the opportunity to always strive harder to let our light shine in the lives of our good nieghbors.
Our congregation is a member of the Rocky Mountain District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
Our congregation has embarked on a ground-breaking project to impact our community and enhance our mission as ambassadors of Christ. Construction has begun on re-purposing our vacant school into an Assisted Living Facility to provide below-market housing and health services to low-income retired members of our community.
